What's the Difference?

OneDrive — Your Personal Storage
Think of OneDrive like your personal filing cabinet in the cloud. Files you save here belong to you and are private by default. You can access them from any device — your phone, laptop, or any browser. Great for lesson plans, personal documents, and individual work.
SharePoint — Shared School Storage
SharePoint is like a shared filing cabinet for your team or department. Files stored here can be accessed and edited by everyone in your group. Great for shared resources, department forms, school announcements, and collaborative documents.
Simple rule: Use OneDrive for your own files. Use SharePoint for files your team needs to share.

How to Access OneDrive

1

Via Browser (Any Device)

Open any browser and go to the OneDrive portal. Sign in with your school Microsoft 365 account.

Open onedrive.onesms.org
2

Via OneDrive App (Phone or Tablet)

Download the Microsoft OneDrive app from the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play Store (Android). Open it, tap Sign in, and use your school email and password.

Tip: Enable Camera Upload in the app settings to automatically back up your photos to OneDrive.
3

Via File Explorer (Windows PC)

If OneDrive is set up on your computer, you'll see a cloud icon in your taskbar (bottom-right). Click it to open OneDrive. Your files also appear in File Explorer under "OneDrive - Sisters of Mary Schools."

Common Questions

How do I upload a file to OneDrive?

In the browser, click the Upload button and select Files. Choose the file(s) from your computer and they will upload to your OneDrive. On the mobile app, tap the + (plus) button and choose Upload.

How do I share a file with a colleague?

Right-click the file in OneDrive (or tap the three dots on mobile) and select Share. Type the person's school email address and choose whether they can edit or only view the file. Click Send — they'll receive an email with a link.

You can also copy the link and paste it into a Teams message or email.

How do I create a new folder in OneDrive?

In OneDrive on your browser, click New → Folder, give it a name, and click Create. On the mobile app, tap the + button and select Create folder.

Can I access OneDrive files without internet?

Yes! You can mark files to be available offline. In the OneDrive app on your phone, tap the three dots next to a file and select "Make available offline". On Windows, right-click a file in OneDrive and choose "Always keep on this device."

How much storage do I have?

Your school Microsoft 365 account comes with 1 TB (1,000 GB) of OneDrive storage — more than enough for years of documents, presentations, and files. To check your current usage, go to onedrive.onesms.org and look at the bottom-left corner of the screen.

What is SharePoint and how do I access my team's files?

SharePoint is where shared department and school files are stored. The easiest way to access your team's SharePoint is through Microsoft Teams — click on your Team channel, then click the Files tab at the top. All files there are stored in SharePoint.

You can also access SharePoint directly through your browser by looking for shared links or sites that your department administrator has shared with you.

I accidentally deleted a file — can I get it back?

Yes! OneDrive keeps deleted files in the Recycle Bin for 93 days. Go to onedrive.onesms.org, click Recycle Bin on the left side, find your file, and click Restore.

How do I see previous versions of a file?

OneDrive saves older versions of your files automatically. Right-click (or tap the three dots on mobile) on a file and select "Version history." You can view and restore any previous version from the list.

Someone shared a file with me but I can't find it

In OneDrive, click Shared in the left sidebar. You'll see all files and folders that others have shared with you. You can also check your school email inbox for a sharing notification with a direct link.

What file types can I store in OneDrive?

Almost anything — Word documents, Excel sheets, PowerPoint presentations, PDFs, images, videos, and more. Files larger than 250 GB cannot be uploaded (though this is rarely an issue for typical school use).
